Brother and sister duo José and Karina Argüello are third generation coffee growers based in the municipality of La Concordia, Chiapas, Mexico. Much of the duo’s knowledge is passed down from their father, who taught them everything he learned over his lifetime of operating the farm. After purchasing the farm 8 years ago, José took on the director role of the regional producer’s cooperative called CAFECO, while Karina manages the green coffee sales. Since then, José and Karina’s farm has earned various awards, impressively including 2nd place overall in Cup of Excellence in 2023, and 1st place overall in 2019, 2021 and 2022.

At Finca Santa Cruz, lush vegetation shades the coffee trees across the family’s 250 hectares, 95 of which are dedicated to coffee production. For this lot, typica and bourbon coffee cherries are fermented in a tank for 24 hours, then dried on beds in cherry for about 14 days. The final cup is extremely clean for a naturally processed coffee, with vibrant citrus acidity and a tangy sweetness reminiscent of tamarind fruit. Finca Santa Cruz is a stand out on our menu, and we are honored to offer it for the first time at Madcap this summer.
