A VIBRANT CUP GROWN IN THE LUSH GUATEMALAN HIGHLANDS

Mauricio Perez Bravo began coffee farming 28 years ago, when he acquired his cherished piece of land in Tectictán, Huehuetenango, Guatemala. As a symbol of happiness, he affectionately named the farm “El Divino Niño,” or The Divine Child.

This lush corner of Guatemala is often underrepresented in the specialty coffee sector because of its high elevation and winding roads. Visiting this area or moving coffee from it can be difficult, but the breathtaking views along the way reward the determined traveler.

After picking, Mauricio’s coffee begins its processing journey in a manual pulper, followed by 30 hours of rest in fermentation tanks. The coffee is then gently washed in channels, simultaneously being sorted by density. Finally, the coffee dries in the sun on patios for about 1 week. Mauricio’s coffee shines with vibrant sweetness and acidity, with notes of tart raspberry, papaya, and cane sugar. With great pleasure, we are delighted to offer Mauricio’s coffee for the first time at Madcap.
