A FRUIT-FORWARD COFFEE FROM RWANDA WITH A BRIGHT FUTURE AHEAD

Independently owned, the Kopakama Cooperative is made up of 1025 members, 400 of them women. In 2011, the board of Kopakama directors agreed to create a women’s group, giving them two plots of land. With only 200 members at the time, they called themselves “Ejo Heza,” which translates to “Bright Tomorrow” in Kinyarwanda, the national language of Rwanda. Today, Ejo Heza is 400 members strong, pursuing many ambitious programs they have launched over the past 10 years to improve their livelihoods and the health of their coffee plants. These projects include experiments on optimization of weeding, mulching, and composting techniques, with the assistance of agronomists provided by the Kopakama Cooperative. We’ve had the honor of working with Artisan Coffee Imports to help support the impressive efforts of the Ejo Heza women for four years now. In this year’s cup, we’re tasting bright notes of cranberry, lemon candy, and honeysuckle, rounded out with an overall silky body.
