A HONDURAS TASTING SET

Few places in the coffee world are as fascinating as Santa Barbara, Honduras. The distinct terroir is prevalent in the flavor and is unlike anything else found in the neighboring regions. We’re proud to work with three outstanding producers out of Santa Barbara, all bringing unique coffees to the cupping table. Miguel Ortiz, known as the patriarch of Las Flores, drives quality in the area. Juan Angel works alongside his two sons, Irvin and Orlin, who grow coffee on their own farms as well. Nelson Moreno is called the Innovator of El Cedral, coming from a long line of impressive coffee growers who embrace new technology like solar driers and depulpers. In late 2020, Hurricane Eta blew through the region causing extreme damage to the area’s coffee farms. This devastation combined with aggressive roya (or coffee leaf rust) resulted in these Santa Barbara farms producing only 25% of their typical cherry harvest. To help mitigate this low yield, Madcap paid an extra $1 per pound of coffee.
