AN AWARD-WINNING ETHIOPIAN SINGLE ORIGIN

Often in Ethiopia, coffee is processed at a cooperative or mill, where many farmers bring their small lots to be processed and blended together. Samuel Degelo’s coffee is a rare opportunity to try one individual’s work from a small plot. Born and raised in the coffee community of Bishan Dimo, Guji, Samuel grew up assisting his parents on their farm. Today, he receives financial support from Testi Trading specialty coffee exporters for composting, training and picking, and inspiring other farmers in the area to invest in their coffee farms. We first met Samuel Degelo in 2019 when his coffee was submitted to the Ethiopian Cup, winning second place and achieving the competition’s highest scoring washed coffee. We were in the jury and fell in love with the coffee, knowing immediately that we had to partner with Samuel, and we’ve had his coffee annually since. Dedicated to quality, sustainability, and education in his farming practices, Samuel is a shining example of producers we are excited to support. This year, look for a high acidity and soft body, with particularly sweet notes of peach and coconut.
