A KENYAN SINGLE ORIGIN FROM A COLLABORATIVE AND CLOSE-KNIT COMMUNITY

In Swahili, Tano Ndogo means the "The Small Five" referring to the five producers that work together from their relatively compact plots of land to process their coffee communally. This small group of three brothers, Francis, Joseph, and James, along with their two neighbors work in contrast to a country and region predominantly controlled by large cooperatives. This is our sixth year buying from Tano Ndogo and every year we are stunned by their coffee's unique and exquisite expression of flavor. The Small Five cultivate SL-28 and SL-34 varieties, staple varieties in Kenya due to their exceptional cup quality and deep root structure which results in a more drought-resistant crop. In this coffee, which is the SL-28 variety, expect a sunny cup filled with notes of grapefruit, cranberry, and clove.
